Dr. Shelly Mehta is an ECE Professor/Coordinator at George Brown College and TMU. She is the VP of Canadian Association for Social Justice Education (CASJE). Brings extensive experience in research, policy development, and professional learning across the early years sector.Dr. Shelly specializes in amplifying children's voices, supporting newcomer communities, and advancing anti-racist and liberation-focused practices in early learning settings. She is passionate about strengthening the early childhood workforce through collaborative leadership, communities of practice, and systems-level change.

Breakout Session

This workshop explores the current state of early learning and child care in Canada through a social justice lens. Participants will examine the goals of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system and reflect on its impact on equity, inclusion, and access. This session focuses on critically exploring the connections between policy, practice, and privatization, while encouraging meaningful discussion about the future of early childhood education and care in Canada.
